Hi just purchased a 2005 4.0 4x4 xlt 2 weeks ago. Yesterday the alternator went bad. I took it to the dealership and they replaced it. Which was a surprise because I bought it as is. I call today and their saying it now has a bad throttle body and won't start. I don't understand how this has happened when the only codes the day before was for the alternator. Would a "relearn procedure" fix this? Or do you think its just a way the dealership is trying to get back money for replacing the alternator? They told me its a $400 plus mechanic fee for repair. Has anyone else had an issue like this? Just doesn't make any sense to me. Thanks for any info

I've seen it happen plenty of times where a person takes the car in for repair, only to have something else fail while it's in there. As funny as it looks, in most cases it's just a coincidence. I doubt the alternator had anything to do with it.

You can get then remand or new cheaper than $400. Here is just an example. You may find better deals if you search.

Putting this part on yourself would be one of the easiest repairs you've done. You could do it in their parking lot, not that they'd be happy about it.

Turns out nothing was wrong with it. I went to the dealership and asked for my keys. Asked them what was wrong and they told me it wouldn't start. Bad throttle body P2109 I think was the code. I went outside turned the key and let it set for about a minute. Turned it off and then tried to start it. Started right up. So I go back in and asked again and they told me the same thing. I said it running now. Then they said it wouldn't run but for a few minutes. I've been driving it for 4 days now with no problems. I did take my buddies scan tool and clear any errors and I did clean the throttle body. Seems to be running fine. No idea why the dealer ship couldn't start it.
