- 2007 Explorer XLT
To my 2007 Explorer XLT with the 4.0 V6. Yes, the 4.0 V6 known for having a timing chain guide problem. Yes, my Explorer has that problem. (Have had it worked on here and there over the years and no one identifying that that's why it was idling irregularly, etc. Should've done my own research on the Forum and elsewhere I suppose ...) Why the shout-out? Because it has had this problem (unbeknownst to me) for a good long while, and it has kept truckin': 230,000 miles at this point on that 4.0 and its original transmission (just a failed transmission ring one time is all). We're thinking about upgrading to a 2021-2023 Explorer, but we're actually not all that eager to move on from this one. We might try this and just keep truckin' to 300,000. (I'd be remiss to not mention that this longevity has literally been a blessing, as well: It just has.)
