I have a 1998 Mountaineer with a V8 and AWD. It seems that prior to me buying this Bad Boy I read a thread about being able to alter the wiring and add a switch to turn the AWD on/off.

I would like to do this for two reasons:

The first is of course gas mileage.

The other, I am getting a "grrrrrr" noise when I am turning under light acceleration. It gets kind of annoying in parking lots and such. Is there anything I can do to quiet this down as well?

Thanks for the help!

That's to disable automatic 4x4, which you don't have. Pull the front driveshaft.

the AWD V8s use a fully mechanical AWD system. no electronics at all. the truck does not even know that it has it. the wiring is the same as a 2wd. you would have to pull the front drive shaft or convert to regular 4x4.(installing a new t-case)
