My Explorer Sport will be here in 9 days. Today I have called my dealership and asked my sales rep, not to put the dealership badge on my soon to be brand new SUV. He goes and tells me "I will have to talk to my higher ups, I don't think I can make this happen". Really are you F@*^*&^% kidding me, I am spending 50,000.00 dollars on this truck and you can't do this for your soon to be buyer.

Tell him the Sport belongs to you and unless the dealership is going to pay you to advertise it is not to be put on. I forgot to tell them that the other day when I got mine. Luckily mine dealer badge is not all that big and you almost don't see it when you look at it.

Good luck

Yes you can specify that. Call the dealer directly and they should be able to take care of that for you. It's a lot easier to do it at signing but should be able to be done upon delivery as well since the customer is always right. Also, congrats on your new purchase!

I have asked for that on every vehicle I have ever bought and I have never had a dealer refuse. One even removed it for me as they put it on in error.

Any idea how to safely remove it once it is put on? I'd love to take mine off!

Why have the discussion, just take it off yourself.

I did, it took 30 seconds.

Same with their licence plate frames.

Back in the 70's my dad went to pick up his brand new Gran Torino from the dealer and found that they'd put their badge on it.
He asked them to either remove it or pay him $100 a week to advertise for their dealership. This was back when they drilled holes to attach the badges instead of sticky-taping them like they do now, so removing it was more of an ordeal. It took them a couple days to fill the holes and repaint the trunk, but they did it.
To this day, the first thing I do when I bring home a new vehicle is remove their license frames and put on generic ones. :)

My dealership only puts the plates on, but i always take the one that i want on and they install that one.

I don't understand why some people have to make a big ordeal out of this. Simply remove the sticker or license plate frame when you get home. Yes, you just paid $50,000 and yes, it's your vehicle, but there's no reason to make a scene or an a$$ of yourself at the dealership. I personally don't care if they put them on, as I have always removed them as soon as I get the vehicle home.....the stickers are easily removed since they were just recently applied at the dealership, and if there is any residue left, I simply rub some peanut butter on it in a circular motion and it cleans right up after you wipe it with a soft cloth.
You obviously thought enough of the dealership to reward them with your business, the least you can do is accommodate them by accepting the vehicle without any undue drama over an easily removed sticker/license plate.

Just relax and enjoy your new ride.......

Goof off and heat.

Ed

Also if its the badge instead of the sticker logos a nice piece of fishing line will slide behind the badge and remove it then use the goo-be-gone and heat to remove the sticky tape. Works like a charm. Can also do this with most emblems or lettering on vehicles aswell

I know it sucks, but if your there to sign paperwork and tell them your going to walk if they do not remove their own advertisements I can almost promise you it will be removed!

This also is one of my pet pieves! (Did I spell that right? lol)

No problem. Hair dryer and 60 seconds, gone. Not difficult and no risk to the paint.

Just warm it up and it peels right off. Any residue and I use a little goo gone.

I only buy a new vehicle every 8 years or so... but I always take the dealer branding off immediately. Its easier to do myself since the dealers always wring their hands over the branding thing and its not worth the drama. They need to do this and face it - you dont need to make a scene about it.

Really - do it yourself, its easy and everyone is happy. They feel like they are effectively marketing their brand - and you have a clean vehicle without some dealer ad on it. Win-win.

This has already been discussed in a previous thread. My salesman said all I have to do is ask that it not be put on. I don't know why this is such a big deal in the first place. I like to check out vehicles to see where they are from. I don't go out of my way to do it but I find it interesting at times. Also, I have had very good service from the salesman and dealership and am happy to advertise for them. No fee required. Besides, I would never buy a vehicle solely based on a sticker in the first place.

Picking up your new vehicle is supposed to be a happy occasion for both parties involved....why spoil it with negativity and confrontation??? Just politely accept the vehicle (don't even ask about the sticker), take it home and remove it yourself....simple.

(peeve is the correct spelling in case you are interested!)

Taking a sticker off, of anything, is very simple. Don't sweat the small stuff. Enjoy your new Ex when it comes!

I have a different take on this...

When we "ordered" our '06 mustang I tried to make it easy for them...

I told them we would pay MSRP and order the vehicles exactly as we wanted it. We worked hard to come up with the 10k down payment and since we knew we were going to drive this for 300k miles we wanted to make sure it was what we wanted..

We did ask them not to put on the sticker and if they would have we would have made them take it off. Just like if they had switched out the floor mats with a different trim level we would have made them get the right ones (I've heard of a few dealers doing that on the Pony Package Mustangs)..

Back to my thought.. I don't "need" to buy from them but we gave them the opportunity to have a sale and make some money. If they aren't going to give us what we want then we would have taken out business elsewhere, which we almost did.

They tried to come back with "we need to charge a market adjustment" of $3000. I told them if that is how they felt then we would take our business elsewhere, even if we would buy it from a dealer not in town to cut down on the taxes.

Anyway.. back to my orig. thought... We are letting them sell to us and if they don't want to give us what we want we will follow the rules of capitalism and buy it from somewhere else that will.

We expect to be going through this in a couple more years (will be close to 300k miles by then) but I doubt out philosophy will change much. We are working hard to get the money together and will give them the opportunity to sell to us again, although their service dept experience is weighing heavy on the possibility of not buying from the same dealer (different screw up on their end)

I don't understand why some people have to make a big ordeal out of this.

(in my best girl voice)..."OMG...they put a sticker on my new car". "OMG...somebody put 25 miles on my new car". "OMG...they put the front license plate bracket on". "OMG...my new car smells funny".

Same crap, different thread.......

Do you really think the dealership is going to use the same quality sticker that the factory uses?

Have you ever seen what cheap stickers look like over time? Here in Arizona it doesn't take long for those stickers to look like crap and what happens if you manage to scratch into the paint when trying to remove a sticker they put on?

On top of that there is a point to which someone cares about what they spend their money on. If this was a $500 "thing" I probably wouldn't care and would spend my time taking it off and not worry if I goofed while doing that. When I spend $30k+ I want it how I want it..

Also, there are different types of vehicle owners.. Some people lease a car, don't do anything to "make it theirs" drive it 'till the lease is up and then get another. This seems to be more of the norm nowadays but I digress.... To them the vehicle is a tool, like a can opener... To enthusiasts its a different story.. They have a connection to their vehicle and want it to be the way they want it.

I forgot to say.. I do think worrying about 25 miles is a little extreme (200 miles not so much) but a license plate bracket (when it is drilled in) is a big deal.. A license plate frame isn't..

"...what happens if you manage to scratch into the paint when trying to remove a sticker they put on?..."

That is a total straw man argument, isnt it? Lets be serious - nobody said to use a screwdriver or a putty knife. Know what I use? My fingers. (and like I said before, a hair dryer to warm it up a bit if needed).

No - I dont lease them. Yes, I love my car and dont want to scratch it of course. Nor do I want dealer advertising on it. I also appreciate the generally accepted practice of dealers branding vehicles they sell - that is part of their business and thats fine. If you want to threaten going to a different dealership over a sticker - I say great, more power to you. Have fun.

For me, its sort of turning a mole hill (an ant hill) into a mountain. For me I just take it off.

But to each their own.
