All the auto parts stores show this part but I can not find it anywhere. I just replaced the Vapor Management Valve that is under the battery and it looks nothing like this thing. Can someone tell me where it is located.

In 96, (my source), it says "under the spare tire between the canisters"

I can not seem to get rid of this P0446 EVAP DTC code. I think this is the only other electrical item in the system.

its a good "guess" as it appears that 446 pertains to the canister purge solenoid / control while 443 could be either vapor management or canister purge.... good luck. Having said that, they are probably readily testable with a meter and a power supply.

There's a mounting bracket above the spare tire that holds the vapor canisters and that part is somewhere in the hose connections, can't remember where. Check all the hoses for cracks or splits and hose connections first before replacing the valve. A leak in the vapor system will give that error code. The mounting bracket on my 97 rusted out, the canisters fell down on top of the spare tire, and one of the hoses came loose giving me the error.

I am going to be diving into this very soon. Thanks.

Well I checked and the purge valve that I got does not look anything like what is back there. I am at a complete loss. I can not locate the correct one anywhere. the one on the tuuck is 3 times larger than what I was sold, and all the suppliers say is the one I need.

WHAT GIVES.

This is the setup that is on my truck. This diagram is for a 5.0l but I have a 4.0 OHV. I do not know why mine is like the 5.0 as they are different supposedly. This is the valve I need, however all the auto parts stores say they all use the same valve and the one they sell is nowhere near what this one looks like.

Help, I can not find this part.

It appears that this valve is a dealer only part. Price is 60.00, OUCH.

I don't think that actual valve is an issue in terms of size and "looks". the most important part is the connector.... "if the electrical connector fits, then you must use it" (to steal from mr cochrane...:-)). ... assuming of course, that you can successfully mount it somehow.

The hose connection appear to be smaller than the canister conections, and the valve is supposed to plug directly into the canister with an o-ring according to the dealer parts dept. They described exactly what it looks like I have. I do not even think the wiring harness will extend to the valve I was sold.

Well This afternoon I tore into the canisters. Found both to be dry and unclogged. All associated lines were clear and bench tested the valve which also seemed to open and close. I replaced the gas cap and cleared the P0446 CEL code and I will see what happens over the next few days.

Is there anything that I might be missing?

did you apply a vacuum to it in both operated and unoperated condition?

no I blew through it. It did shut when energised, but it might not have been air tight. I did blow it out with shop air and clean the connections.

the reason that I said that is that if it was "weak", then perhap a vacuum with cause the valve to stick (ie. not enough energy to operate it).... but it depends. From internet, it appears that fine dust can cause operational problems.

FIXED!!! I am declaring the intermittent starting problem I was having as fixed. It was the Vapor Management Valve, which was causing a big vacuum leak. The truck fires right up, first time, every time. I chased fuel problems and everything else and it was the EVAP system all along. Thanks to you guys for all the help. Also the CEL P0446 code has not returned since cleaning the Canister Purge Valve and replacing the gas cap.

Special thanks to budwich and JT.
