The reasons you may want to bypass the factory amp are because the had unit probably has enough power to power the speakers without the amp and because the amp may have failed which caused your speakers to stop working. This is what happened to me. Both speakers on one side failed because of the amp. Once the new headunit was hooked up and the amp was bypassed I was fine. If you ordered from Crutchfield you should get everything you need to do the install including bypassing the amp. If you want to use the factory amp you will have to install an additional adaptor to make it work.
 






if i just unhook the amp will it still play sound or not
 






I don't think it will but hopefully someone with more expertise in this area can answer for sure.
