Carlovers Desert Beater Build

I think the next breakage requires a switch to good ol' reliable beams LOL.

naaaaa i hate beams lol...the new spindle will be far superior to anything ive had yet, and the 1.25" lower and 1" upper uniballs should be nice.

Now that the ex is drivable again, you gonna make it out to truckhaven? I still want a ride in this thing.

i dont think so. family and money things going on right now. you should come to the big cleanup in barstow next month.

What? You don't like your front wheels looking all \ / in photos? hater.

Ya i'm signed up for the cleanup. Hoping i can actually make it out there though, because i'm going to have a big project due the tuesday after it for school.

put the carpet back in yesterday. man oh man what a difference in sound deadening. alot quieter now, and more civilized lol.

Im trying to figure out where to go next with this thing. I really should do an engine cage, and fuel cell and race it lol. but links would be awesome too........?????..:rolleyes:

Ah, that sucks. You may be running into the issues I've had. When you start running it hard things move around. It's looking like my wiring harness is chaffed, shorted and maybe even pinched by the inner fenderwells and it's really causing some issues.

Well now that it has some downtime. A few big changes are going to happen.

The whole front end (minus frame) will be getting cut off. A full engine cage tied into the cab cage will be built. the front kit is getting sold and an all new kit will be built. This kit will push the wheelbase forward 1-2" and use upper and lower uniballs with a fabbed spindle running nice beefy snouts, and hubs. It will greatly increase strength and add a few more inches of front travel. The cutting up will start next week, and im going to be doing alot of the work myself to really dive in and learn some things.

Just saw your update. You going to build this front end to run some 35s or 37s to hopefully start rolling over some of this stuff that your 33s have been crashing into? Bigger tires should actually help the breakage on the front end.

Best of luck, I want to do the same, biggest hangups for me have been deciding where things like the battery, fuse panels, charcoal canister etc. I just can't picture in my head where all of that stuff will go but sure would like to lose all inner fenderwells.

alot of the stuff is just little tabs and such to be made and zip ties lol. everything will be setup to run 35's and be more then strong enough for it. i keep asking myself what am i getting into lol....

too late to turn back now though, i shipped the front kit to its new home in AZ today....

You're deep in it now:p:
You gonna ditch all the A/C stuff? I'm about ready to rip mine out, just seems to be in the way.

ac is staying. im gonna re locate the ecu and ditch the wiper motor. that way ill be able to go through the firewall in 4 places to attach engine and cab cage. i want comfort even if it means more work and money lol. i guess im getting old or something.

once everything is cut up a v8 swap is up next when i can find a donor truck. itll be a fairly slow process fab wise since im finally gonna do some of my own work and learn learn learn.

How much for the bumper? :)

im asking $300 for it but im sure we could work something out. its going to be cutoff with part of the frame so re attaching it should be pretty easy. i just need to make enough off of the parts im selling to buy a 1 piece fiberglass conversion front end which is $800 lol.

I figured it would be at least that much, which is out of my price range right now, but i still love that bumper design. Wish i could afford it though. Will a one-piece not fit with that bumper? And what fiberglass are you going with since there are no explorer one pieces? Go with a ranger edge clip!
