Well it was bound to happen eventually. I sorta bumped a tree going up the "Hard Line" at Moss Rock. It kissed the rear Qurter panel and left a little dent and some red paint from someone else on my white truck.

Then I lost a bead on the rear wheel going up 2 stage. I guess I finally pushed it on the trail. Got to use my new High Lift though. That was cool. And my spare (from MOAB).

Then, when airing up after the run. Well I noticed that the steering wheel was really pulling to the right. No biggie. But if you look at my truck from the front, it has the same posture that most cars have when the motor is pulled. Except, that the tires bow in at the bottom instead of the top. Yep Camber is far out its scary. And toe-in is bad. Looks like the drag link is bent pretty bad.

Sad thing is I don't know when this happened? How did Camber get that screwed?

Still had fun. Did lots of trails that make people wonder how an Explorer does it, ( specially when they can't ).

I'll let Gerrald post about his " Trails and tribulations" as the trail boss. External Roll cages are sounding better all the time.

gee Rob, sounds like your going for the gusto!

Hope you can get it fixed without too much trouble/cost.
Just wondering... you didn't scrunch those pesky side flares again did you? (did you get my E-mail?)
I'm looking forward to seeing Geralds post.
You guys try to keep it in one piece for the Colorado Colors Run, OK? I'd hate to see you have to take the bus to Ouray and have to rent a J##P to do the run. :)

I'll be ready for Colorado. I'm not going to have to rent an "Experamental Open Cab Explorer" for Ouray. ( Most have Ford parts from my experiance ) My body damage isn't that bad. A few minor dents that "white" hides pretty well. I am definatly going to do the Gerrald rocker panel mod on my truck. He has some really good skid plates working on his truck.

I miss MOAB.....

howzabout those side flares?

Rob,
I E-mailed you but it must not have gone through.
I was talking with Rick and Char and they mentioned you were planning on removing your side flares, like the one you "removed" in Moab. :)
If so, I would be interested in them for my Explorer.
Also, do you still have the rims?
I will be at the Colorado run (I live here...) so we can avoid the shipping hassle...
Let me know...

recieved e-mail

Wabbit, Yes, I got your e-mail. I sent you a "Private Mail" via the little PM Icon in all the post. I really like this feature. Now if they could just add spell check?

Sold the wheels, and I may try and use the Tupper Ware ( Factory side trim ) on the Explorer. I'll let you know if I don't use them.

Happy Trails & ( Have you Broken a Ford Lately )

Rob, check the alignment adjustment bushing on your upper balljoint. It may have come loose and turned messing up your alignment. Other than that all I can think of is a bent axle housing, bent radius arm or bad coil spring.

Good luck.

OK, thanks for letting me know

Guess I gotta pay a little more attention to that PM thingie :)
See you in Ouray

Camber adjustment please!

Lord, please let it be the camber adjustment thingy..All those other things sound so expensive. I promise not to make any more J**p..Uhhh...Jeep Jokes. I promeise to Tread Lightly and to always carry more trash out than in.

Rick, I hope it's just something cheap. I didn't hit anything hard enough to bend an axel housing or a radius arm. Caster is still fine, so I think the Radius Arms are OK. I'll know tomorrow.

Thanks Rob

Whoops

Well....... I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Front bumper, gonna be about $400. Don't want to know what it's going to cost to straighten out my passenger side door and rear quarterpanel, and get them repainted. I can't afford this. It kinda takes the fun out of wheelin' for awhile. This goes way beyond character marks.

I could have gotten my front diffy LSD'd and other goodies for what this is gonna set me back.

Say what?

Gerald, Gerald..

What are we going to do about you?

Shows what happens when you tease someone about stuff.. You had to go and try and show me up!

:D

Gerald, are you going to explain how you got your whoops or are you going to leave us guessing? Boy, am I glad we took the VW to Colorado. No way to get in trouble that way.

Wabbit, it was greating meeting you and Christine. Still don't know if we're doing the fall colors run.

Rob, maybe you should change 'Gofast' to "Trying to stay in one piece'. Good luck on the repairs. I hope it is something cheap. Money runs out fast when you have too many expensive repairs. :D

Geralds Whoops.....

The mourning period isn't quite over yet. I arrived shortly after the fateful event. I was tailgunning and trying to keep lost sheep togather. I missed the event, but saw the scene. This is all I can say until Gerald has shed his last tear and returns to happier days.

( When he does tell the story, I want to hear what his passengers said )

Gerald, did the J**p guy's buddy have any deals?

Alright, Gerald, fess up??! Got to know what happened. You didn't tip it, did you?

I don't feel good about this. If it's any consolation, my diffy is on its way out, which means I'll be spending again. Maybe on a locker. I hope you didn't injure it too much.

Char, you can get into as much trouble as you want with the VW. Think double whammy!!! :) That would certainly put a hurt on the VW.

Hey Rob, I went back and read your first post. Your bent draglink is probably the whole problem. It's amazing how a really screwed up toe setting can make your tires tilt.

I changed my draglink in my driveway and it was looking pretty bad until I got it dialed in.

I hope that's all it is.

Gerald...wha happen????

Rick

I got a Wedgie

First obstacle right off the bat; I had my 7yr old son along with his two friends and their father. It was an optional hill, but very steep and one I had climbed many times before. I thought I would show my passengers what the Explorer could do right at the beginning so they wouldn't get too scared when we tackled more stuff. I was very familiar with this hill so I did not get out to look it over; I just started right up it. Big mistake.

It's been raining constantly in Dallas for the last couple of weeks. The hill had eroded severely and was much different than it was the last time I was out there. A very deep wedge had washed out in the center of it so I was powering up with my tires straddling each side of the erosion. My right front tire hit a ledge at the top, shot up to grab air, and landed to the left, right in the middle of the wedge. I slammed my whole right side into the wedge when I came down from getting the air.

I wasn't finished. Later on that day I managed to severly obliterate my front bumper.

Lesson learned; don't get too familiar with your trail.

Ouch... Just glad that everyone was ok. I hope the first incident didn't scare your passengers too bad.

Nah, the boys thought it was fun. We adults just thought, oh-oh.....

It's good that nobody got hurt. I hope the damage isn't too severe.

I guess there's a lesson in there for all of us (if only I had a trail nearby to get familiar with). Good luck with the repairs. Will insurance cover it? If not, I would look for a matching front bumper and mount it yourself - save a little that way.

Heck..

Just think - I was nowhere near you Gerald!

I was however pissing off the POR's. :D

Is there any pic's?

I'm still waiting for some of my whoops! to show up on the whoops! page.

Hehehe...
Tom, you dog you. Are you stirring up trouble on the POR board?

Let's not get in any kind of layover competition, ok? I'll just let you stay ahead if that's okay. Pics wouldn't be much; I'm sure I'm still way behind you. It's just that this really wore the new off of mine, you know? My passenger side door took most of the hit, the rear passenger door the rest, and minor oopsies on the rear quarterpanel. I'm thinking at least some of that can be popped out without major body reworking. This is still a nice new daily driver so my main concern after that is finding a really good paint shop that can do a "perfect" match on that clearcoated paintjob I have(had). I can replace my own bumper and fenderwell trim, etc.

Tom Wilk, are you saying you have already worn out that Auburn?

Gerald
