I don't have a pic of the CB itself, but its nothing special.. Its just a U bracket holding an old RadioShack CB under the dash (under the ashtray)..

Here a couple pics of the Antenna (with an Antenna flag on it)..

I just welded a tab to the outside edge of the bumper and mounted it there (no spring).. I'm using a braided ground strap at the base of the antenna to the body to get a better ground than the bumper mounts give.

Here are a few pics of the antenna/mount/location

magnet mount, middle of the roof. ran the wire through the seal for the flip-out side window.

i'd like to go to a permanent mount with some kind of spring.

With the radio in there is it hard to use? Like do you have to have the arm rest up so you can use it? What kind of reception do you get with that set up?

Placement of the radio doesn't affect your reception, the antenna does. I had my first CB radio in that same location and it was alright for the time I had it in there, but if you are constantly playing with the squelch and volume, it's probably better to mount it somewhere else. At that point, I also didn't have an external speaker which made it pretty hard to hear.

Home made consol

Just finished my home made consol for my IC706MKIIG and a MFJ speaker.
Looks pretty good.

I made a special mounting bracket for my Outbacker Perth Plus antenna on the roof, and can post pics if wanted?

How tall is that antenna?

For the record, I think those long wire ones like that look awesome:D

102" stainless steel whip. It's the balls. I had always been a firestik guy before I got this, now I'm never going back.

I run K40 antennas on my trucks, mounted to/through the roof. More or less center of vehicle, for a fairly even ground plane (for omni-directional transmission.)

In my '93, the CB is mounted in the ashtray hole of the dash (photo 3.) In my '06, I am building a center console that will house the CB, gauges and switches (pictures when it is complete.)

Hey Rick, couple of questions:

I only see one antenna in the pics. Is that the case, or do both of your radios utilize the same antenna?

Also, you mentioned that the Icom 706 doubles as a CB. Since the 706 is no longer being produced, what do you look for in a VHF+ radio that tells you this?

And to contribute to the thread a little, here's my antenna install on the tow rig:

You can see the VHF/UHF antenna on the left side of the hood. It's hard to see, but it runs up through the middle of the tool box that's in front of the truck.

Not sure if there are any other radios with the same capabilities as the 706, other than the 706 Mark II G which was the most up to date model. You could probably find a good used one.
