CCr's Explorer picture progress thread

As I modify I will try to keep this updated. I just realized I'm missing a few pics. I'm trying to take pics in the exact same spot to show what happens and I will include others as I go.

The beginning

eeek new tires! ;)

That's what I was going to suggest:D

Those ones look T-I-N-Y!

i waited to lift mine untill i had enough money for tires and the lift, but to each his own :D

they are new tires and rims/tires are of course on the list.

looks good so far

just sprayed rubberized undercoating on the door panels below the body line, the chrome and plastic behind the back tires and the front and rear bumpers. pics hopefully tomorrow.

Will be waiting... How'd you spray that way?? Or should I wait for the pics?

just taped off where I wanted it to start on the doors, the bumpers I just went to town on. all I did was clean the paint and chrome and scuff it a little with a dishwashing sponge. I'll have to wait and see if I need to touch it up or not. I did do this in mostly dark and only lights from the rig which are dim.

Have you tried chip guard? Whooooooo! It's smells so toxic, I had to stop using it right away...

sprayed some **** in my mustang years back, this is just NAPA/Permatex heavy duty rubberized undercoating.

I'll check out the pics and look for it.... thanks!

k, for a review I'd like to mention that it says nothing for curing time, or prep. I would not use this product again. I used 3 cans for even coverage and as you can see it has a goofy color look to it. I beleive the catalyst comes out as tan and the undercoating as black. it seems to come off with just a little rubbing of a finger but I'll let it set for a few days. it may come off at the car wash at this point. a much better choice would be roll on bedliner for even coverage and even color. Iwill do that if this doesn't stay well. I do like the flat black look tho.

The plastic on the bumpers doesn't look good at all IMO. Everything else isn't to bad theres just a little to much contrast between the flat and gloss black for my liking.

And you should probably get some brackets made to lift the bumpers up too. Theres a template around here for them somewhere.

Before it dries, you should take it off but leave a small area somewhere to see what it looks like when it dries. Don't sweat it, you'll get it right...

front bumper is lifted, rear bumper is not. solution? custom bumpers as soon as I get to SD. I didn't to the rear plastic with undercoating, not sure why.........

as of that pictures it was dry, but meh, paint thinner will take it off

3M makes an adhesive remover in a blue can. I use it to undo things like, oh, red paint that was accidentally sprayed... it can take off emblems too, but won't harm your oem paint...

haha, thanks for the heads up! oh yeah and I had a fear of losing the x completely tonight. I was driving down the road and I see things glowing red behind me, they got brighter as I hit the brakes. I figured, must just be grasshoppers or other bugs. then I see this weird glow each time I come across a stripe in the road. I start to wonder, but nothing really clicks. I stop at the bar as I was gonna pick up some beer since we are pulling all the pipe outta the hole and I don't have to work anymore (bars closed no one there). I look down and the weird glow is still there so I jump out and look under the x, sure as **** there is some grass burning on my catalytic converter. I haul ass a few blocks to a guy I knows house only to find no lights on, I hop out to look for a hose, find none, turn around and see no glow, go back and look. the fire is out. thank god. that was my scare for the night
