Virtually everything I own updates itself automatically at 2. Am tomorrow morning except for my stupid antique exploder(2017)

I'm thankful for the reminder cause my phone needs to be restarted when the clocks change or it will be an hour off.

They tried that in the 70s and people hated it.

I remember this. I was 12 and walked to school.

"The sun rose at 8:27 AM on January 7, 1974. Children in the Washington area had left for school in the dark that morning, thanks to a new national experiment during a wrenching energy crisis: most of the US went to year-round daylight saving time beginning on January 6. “It was jet black” outside when her daughter was supposed to leave for school, Florence Bauer of Springfield told the Washington Post. “Some of the children took flashlights with them.

And yet the early-morning darkness quickly proved dangerous for children: A 6-year-old Alexandria girl was struck by a car on her way to Polk Elementary School on January 7; the accident broke her leg. Two Prince George’s County students were hurt in February. In the weeks after the change, eight Florida kids were killed in traffic accidents. Florida’s governor, Reubin Askew, asked for Congress to repeal the measure. “It’s time to recognize that we may well have made a mistake,” US Senator Dick Clark of Iowa said during a speech in Congress on January 28, 1974. In the Washington area, some schools delayed their start times until the sun caught up with the clock.

By August, though, as the Watergate scandal caused the Nixon administration to crumble, the country was ready to move on from its clock experiments. While 79 percent of Americans approved of the change in December 1973, approval had dropped to 42 percent three months later, the New York Times reported. Seven days after President Nixon resigned, US Senator Bob Dole of Kansas introduced an amendment in August that would end the DST experiment. It passed. A similar bill passed the House. In late September, the full Congress passed a bill that would restore standard time on October 27. President Ford signed it on October 5. Energy savings, a House panel noted, “must be balanced against a majority of the public’s distaste for the observance of Daylight Saving Time."

It is fully dark right now here with cars parked(kids inside waiting for the bus) next to the highway I travel to work every day. The kids are going to school right now in the dark, with daylight savings time. The change does not solve the issue of children going to school in the dark, either way.

So the children issue is moot, different for different places, and changes throughout the year. That's a separate issue that should have no effect on what the clocks are set at. If there's a problem big enough to need a change, alter the school start time, do not whine about the time when the rest of the world has dawn and dusk happen.

The ideal case would be to turn the clocks ahead an hour from where they are now, and leave it there constantly. Most people would appreciate more daylight after work for activities.

I don't get why they'd make DST permanent. If they're going to go with one time year-round, why not make it the actual time and not DST? Just makes no sense to me. But doesn't really make much difference to me one way or another, AZ figured out long ago that DST was nonsense and said "We're not gonna do it!"

For the AZ folks who's phones don't know they're in AZ, I think there is actually a setting in most phones now that will set your phone to "AZ time" so it will only change when you're traveling and you enter another time zone.

I remember it well. Cold as hell, and stumbling to high school in the dark as well. VERY bad for young kids going to school. They were getting run over more often. Keep the DST like it is this year. Isn't broken, don't fix. Of course Congress critters are having THEIR kids chauffeured to their private schools so no prob for them. Record snow that winter near Milwaukee., Where I was, sidewalks tunneled between 8 foot snow piles. Had to step into the street to see approaching traffic!

My phone is set to network time so it updates as I drive around the country. The problem I've had a few times is when I'm in AZ when the time change happens, my phone will change time by an hour automatically. I restart the phone to correct the time.

Almost forgot about it- thanks!!!

I live in AZ... I have forgotten about it! :)
