Changing Fuel Filter Today...

And need to know how to relive the fuel pressure? i read some threads and looked for the interia switch which i could not find on my truck and also could not find any switch with a red button on it and i don't want to be sprayed with fuel and i also don't know which fuse is the fuel pump one also if anyone could help me that would be great.

If you can't find the intertia switch, pull the fuse for the fuel pump from under the hood and then crank the motor till all the fuel is gone.

Check your manual.. My manual is probably the same but I would rather have you check the manual to make sure.

When I did mine, I just pulled the relay for the fuel pump while the engine was running. When the engine died, I turned the key off and was set.

BUT - you're still gonna get fuel all over yourself - just not as much! Be careful!

Well just looked at my Ford Technical Service Information Electronic Publications CD and it had NOTHING about the fuse box ha go figure.

Ok well i found the switch do i unplug it while the engine is running or off and try to start the engine?

Ok well i used the blue plastic tool i picked up from autozone for $10 and it does'nt work! i put it in and pressed pretty hard and tryed to pull the fuel line out and it didnt budge and than i tryed the gray one that came with it, same thing it did nothing i tryed it over and over and over and nothing so i gave up. The sport trac fuel lines should be different should'nt they? am i doing something wrong?

Another plan is to release the pressure at the shrader valve under the hood.
Have a rag under the valve to catch the fuel and when you are dont throw the rag in the trash so you dont wipe it on your face or your truck.

If you cant get the blue one to work, I have a kit at work, one of them will do the trick. Stop by and I'll trust you.

I put the tool in place, push it in, twist the filter carefully, curse, curse again, give up, try again in a couple of minutes after a and it will eventually come off. I've done mine a half dozen times now and every time goes the same way. Just keep trying.

yup, i've got my new filter in the glovebox cuz i gave up pullin' those damn lines... i'll take 'er up to wally world, get charged a couple bucks, and save the headache.

Check out the Fuel filter removal thread. It has lots of info and pictures detailing how to use the fuel line disconnect tools. As the others have mentioned disconnected the fuel lines is the hardes part of the job. Somethimes the fittings realease quickly, and other times your fighting it. When using the tool if the lines don't release try re-inserting the tool, but rotate it slightly (you are basically trying to have the tool contact all the fingers of the garter spring).

I went through 2 of those, a metal one that was too thick and a hardened plastic one that was too long. The plastic one fit but was too flimsy to break mine free (mines kinda grimey after 104 thousand miles, mind you). 3 people, an 18-pack, and no go. p.o.s. push-locks.

Yea i read that and printed that section out on paper before i asked about how to relive the pressure i tryed twisting and no luck but will keep trying. Thanks.
