I have a 1996 4x4 Ranger with a 4.0, dana 35, and 8.8 I want to switch my drums to disc in the rear. I have been told that rear disc of a 95 explorer will work. What have you guys done? What do I need? Thanks

The Explorer discs will not bolt up to your Ranger axle because the mounting plates have a different bolt pattern. It has been done but requires some fab work:

You could also swap in an Explorer axle assembly but it is a "spring under" design. To keep your 4x4 ride height, you would need to relocate the spring perches and add shock mounts.

Companies like Stainless Steel Brakes sell conversion kits:

I have a homemade rear disc brake setup using Mustang SVO vented rotors and Cadillac calipers. Pictures at my CarDomain.

Mine uses 80~85 Eldorado calipers and 84~86 Mustang SVO rear rotors. The mounting brackets and the parking brake adapters on my truck are homemade but you can find similar parts in the aftermarket, too.

There are commercial rear disc kits available for Rangers for about $500~900. Some are more complete than others. Here are some links to look at:
