1997 ford explorer
Hello all, new to the forum, but have been reading on here for a while. I have a 1997 Explorer with the 4.0l sohc. It has 53000 miles and I have a code that popped up. P0443 is the only code that was on the scanner. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the canister purge solenoid, but after about a week it came back. They say it could be the PCM but they are not sure. Are there any other components I should look at before I replce the PCM? The dealer says it is not available through Ford any longer, so if it is the PCM where would you folks recommend to get one? Thanks in advance for the help.

That is the part the dealer just replaced. They said they re-checked it and it is fine. Any other ideas? That $23 part just cost me $200.00 to replace, but thats another issue.

So is this a problem with the gas vapour recirculation doodad? .. My explorer had tiny pinholes in the filler neck right under the gas cap and was throwing a code saying there was a leak. I used some rubberized spray to seal the tiny holes and the code has not returned in 5 months or so.

Check the wiring from the purge solenoid to the PCM,
and the plug-in. I doubt if the PCM's bad.

I had one of those locking gas-caps on my explorer since someone actually stole my cap (seriously?? who does that?). It wasn't making a good seal, so I kept getting the same error code. A proper replacement cap fixed the issue.
