Check Engine light came on, used the reader and it came up blank.

so today my engine light came on, i have a 2007 ford explorer V8 with roughly 22000 miles on it. my dad used a CEL reader and it came up blank (no codes)

does it mean anything?

my firend said it could mean "Blank CEL codes usually mean the scanner can't read what the CEL is. presumably something specific to newer explorers. "

Was it an older code reader? Maybe it's not "CAN' compliant. My older code reader wouldn't work on my '06, but it wouldn't link to the vehicle at all, and it told me that. In your case, it sounds like the code reader worked, but that it just came up blank. I had to buy a new scanner.....ripoff.
