after 160,000 miles the original engine self destructed.

located a "gently used" engine (7k miles) and swapped.

check engine lite goes off shortly after i fill the tank.
then comes on about 3/4 tank level.

don't know what code it's throwing yet - gotta stop by the parts store to have then read it.
did replace the factory fuel cap w/aftermarket. no change.

engine runs great - no miss, no lurch, no stumble.

know this post is a bit premature, just wanted to get some ideas.

many thanks.

Ive heard of this happening before. Someone left the car running while they filled it up, and it threw a code, took it to a shop and had it reset. no problems after that.

bump. wondering you fixed your problem

thanks for the followup. haven't resolved it yet.
reset codes, filled up. th elight came back on. ran a couple thanks thru her - light (shutting off at each fill-up) - no resolution.

i'll stop by the parts house this evening to have them read the "new" code(s) and update this thread..

Had the same problem was caused by dirt around where the gas cap seals

codes

P-0401 & P-0402
thoughts? suggestions???

Hay, do a search for P0401&0402, you will see a sensor for the gasoline.
Good luck Ed

401 - insufficient EGR flow
402 - excessive EGR flow

Resolved!!!!!

changed out the DPFE sensor ($75 from FORD) and the light went away!.
