Check fuel cap P0442.

Hi Members,

I am a new member of this site. I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT with 214,000 miles. I have recently had the check engine light come on with the code of P0442. I cleared the code and then about 4 days later the check fuel cap light came on with the same code. I cleared that and a couple of days later the check engine light came back on. I cleaned around the fuelcap and the fuel pipe and then cleared the code. A day later the check engine light has come back on.
Has anybody had this problem and does anyone have any suggestions as to where to look or start.

either replace the fuel cap or check your EVAP system, fuel filler neck included, for any cracks or leaks. The gasket on gas caps wear out, so that is the best place to start
