Trying to see if anyone can give me any info on why the check gage light would come on and the car started to make a loud noise and cut off also the oil indicator went all the way down and I just changed the oil.

i have the same problem too, but it only comes on when the truck is warmed up

If you just changed the oil, make sure the old gasket came off with the old filter and didnt stay on the housing.

there is not a leak and I did just change the oil.

If your oil pressure gauge is not in the normal range, remember that they are basically idiot lights on most Explorers (Not sure which ones had real gauges). I would suspect a problem with the sending unit rather than having actual low pressure (you say there is not a leak).

These threads deal with some of the issues:

if everything was fine before you may have a bad filter. What brand of filter is it? Usually the check gauge light will not come on if its just a gauge issue.

The loud noise worries me, the gauges have a tendency to stick sometimes but the other symptoms as you describe are very serious. Do not start it again until you try a new filter.
