I have the head off and can see small marks on the pistons, but no marks on the valves. I have the head flipped upside down, is pouring water into the valve port and it not leaking down mean the valves are good? Or should I just replace them.
This is where I tried pouring brakleen and it didn't leak down either valve.

That was a copy and paste of my post from another forum.
-Water leaked out intake valves
-Put new intake valve in one cylinder
-It still leaks almost as much as with the old part

Should I have used valve lapping compound? Should I replace the head? This is a cheap cheap cheap build. Paid $100 for the truck, and want to have well under a grand into it. Plans it it are drive it to work once a week(I don't like to let running vehicle sit) and use it when I need a bed, or if my Chevy breaks down. Its am 01 4.0 SOHC 4x4 Ranger

IMHO, if you see evidence of the valves touching the pistons, either do a complete valve job (incl valve seats, guides, guide seals) on this head, or buy a ready to go reman. You only want to be in there this one time so take care of all of it while you're in there. Time is money...

Oops -- V6 make that x2
