Checking mileage...

I'm shopping for a used transmission and the only one in my town is st a junk yard with no mileage information.

I can bring a battery. But the yard doesn't have a key for it. Anyone know of any way I can check the mileage on an 02 explorer without the key?

Perhaps write the vin code down and call the dmv for title records? Any wiring tricks?

Also... it is a DRL equipped explorer, where mine is not. Any way of taking its headlight switch and rigging something up in mine?

Break open the steering column and hot wire the ignition switch...

DRL is controlled by a separate module in engine bay.

Create a mycarfax.com account and add the vehicle as one of yours. Need the vin obviously, but it'll give you some basic records, if a shop has worked on it and when, including smog info.
