I like the Dakota PAC-2000 since you can program when it should turn on and off. It "can" control 2 fans if you have 2. It will turn on the fan(s) with the A/C and it will even leave the fans running for a progammed amount of time once you turn the vehicle off to help with heat soak.

I don't remember the temperature range it can use but it doesn't need a "specific" sending unit, just a VDO range sending unit (I think its a 300F range)

Also, the DCC temp probe is reliable too. I didn't like the idea of it just stuck in the radiator fins, but it does work well there. They do not fall out, but of course don't place it wear things will bump into it. Mine is inside the shroud, untouched after installed.

Most of the 2-3 high end controllers have a good enough adjustment range. I'm going down with my water thermostats. My work truck can use a 180 and my performance vehicles will get a 160, all tuned by PCM. Don't go too low for an EFI vehicle unless you program the PCM to accept the lower temps. Lower temps help power and avoid over heating, but your Winter heat is less as you go lower.

Match your e-fan temp to your thermostat. Try to run the fan, which is your radiator temp, to a lower figure than the engine. Run the fan at 170 with the engine using a 180 t-stat, or the fan at 185 and the engine at 195. That way is more stable for both.

the truck will be tuned for lower temps.i run a 185 probe now and it has allways worked good but now that its inside the fan shroud it think the fan is sucking so much air that its cooling the probe off very quick,so the fan doesn't run for as long as it should.it kicks on and off about every 15sec and temp gauge is showing that it should stay on way longer or till it reaches 175.its fine if your under no load because it only takes 15sec to get under that.i have two fans and both are run off probes but i am switching them out with these two controllers now.

nice been wanting to this. my car overheats everysummer. my fan doesnt keepup. does better now witha new waterpump

how is it wired? i want this in my X

i have two fans and i use these two controllers now.one is for my trans that is mounted on the front and one is the hhr mounted on the radiator.both are run off 2 switches and these controllers

one switch is turned on all the time and is ran off a "switched power" coming from the inside fuse panel, then that is ran to both thermostats on both relays.one thermostat for the hhr is in stalled in a t fitting in my heater hose and the 2nd is installed in my trans line.the first switch is left in the on position so that they will kick on and off on there own by thermostat but only when the truck is on and if you get in some deep water or mud you can turn if off and the fans will turn off no matter what the thermostats say.the 2nd switch i have is run off a constant power source and is left off but it runs too the ac wire that is on the both fan relays,i dont have ac but if you do you would hook this wire up to the ac relay wire.i use the 2nd switch as a back up just in case i want to be able to turn both fans on before the thermostats tell them to or if i want to run the fans with the truck off.

Man im sorry to hear about all that stuff the fuzz put ypu through, Its ok though man there just mad because they got beat up in high school. So this fan mod is of an hhr and do i have to use a manual radiator and will my oil cooler lines bolt to it. Thanks man.

Yea its all good.no it will fit on an auto radiator but needs to be trimmed.check post 25.I haven't trimmed one down yet and tried for sure but I know untrimmed it wont clear by just a little so if you can gain a half inch by trimming Im 90% sure it will fit.

well just a little update,i havent had any problem with this setup so far but it is winter!!! the hhr fan controller stopped working today and when i wiggled the relay it started smoking so i called summit they are shipping me a new one.im pretty sure it isn't the fan fault but i have not measured how many amps it pulls.but it didnt blow any fuses and i put a 25 in it instead of the 30 it came with and i ran it for a week or two on the relay that runs my trans fan, witch is a 20amp.my alternator is going out and is charging around 16volts so i think they may have something to do with it.i just order the new DB 220 amp alternator and we will see if the new controller will hold up or if i need to go to a better controller.

Why not just get an electric fan out of a 02-09 explorer and put it in. It's made specifically for the 4.0L engine. I am sure you can get the OEM wiring harness for it and make installation easier. I've had the electric fan out of a 1996 4.6L crown vic PI for four years now with no problems.

Because the 02+ Explorer 4-door has a LOT more room in the engine compartment. And it has the room. the 91-01 Did not have nearly as much room.

THAT is why.

Also I'm pretty sure the radiators are different so you would have to mod it to work and the hhr is $58,I don't know how much the ex fan cost but the hhr is the cheapest I've seen.its been in the 80s here lately and I was using my truck to pull bushes out of the ground(yea easy way,who needs a shovel) and it kept it perfectly cool.

I might be mistaken, but I don't think any year Explorers ever came from the factory with an electric fan.

I just got one of the HHR fans since my Black magic fan started getting weird on me (would stop sometimes for no apparent reason).

I bet the HHR fan will work better than the black magic due to the shroud covering more of the radiator.

Actually the explorer came as an option with an efan. Can't remember the part number but Ford does list it. Here's one I found on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-0...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

That looks a fan that comes as an option for the tow package.it goes on the trans cooler,I have one.unless they make a bigger one that would not keep you cool as a main fan.to each his own,I love this fan it took VERY little trimming, covers the whole radiator and is pretty quiet and cheap!!
