chevy HHR fan install

I don't know where you can buy that fan he has but if you Google it the fan looks totally different and the sizes would not fit an explorer and is double the price,i posted links that i found and it is the same fan for all models.so post some pics and where you can get it from and where or how you tested the cfms in a new thread.it also wouldn't cover more area that is made for cooling just the side tanks, the hhr covers just the area made for cooling and more amps don't mean better cooling just a more costly controller and amp load on the alt.

Ford built 5 different fans for the Crown Vic in 1996. Here's one that is similar to what I have http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories . I know it's from a 2007 but basically it's the same thing. The 8th digit VIN code is W. This is why you cannot rely on a picture from the internet for true accuracy. Go to the junk yard and start looking, thats all I can say. The fan was measured by putting it on an exhaust flow machine that measures air speed, velocity, and surface area of fan.

I understand that amps do not directly equate to CFM, however, what I'm getting at is whatever the draw of the motor is ( assuming the Ford Crown Vic part is putting out more the the Chevy HHR part) would equate to more air pull at a stand still. This not taking into account blade count and pitch.
Of course anytime you draw more amprage from your electrical system this will put a load on the alt. therby putting a load on the engine but I don't believe there is going to be a point of deminishing returns where you should have just stuck with your mechanical fan cause your electric is now costing you horsepower and gas milage.
My main concern is that I remove my mechanical fan and I put a low flow elec fan on and I wheel it and burn up the motor. It reachs 115* during the hottest months. If I need to invest in a high output alt to run a higher output fan thats fine, just want to be sure the cfm of the elec fan is correct.

No, they are all stock from Ford, it's a P71 package. I'd bet the fan is stock for any Crown Vic of those years.
From what I can find its not the same fan in all the cars, only in cop car and taxi and is not available new anymore, its rumored to use the same two speed motor as the mark fans.yes both of those fans pull over 4000cfm.

From what I searched you are the only one with this fan on here,so why don't you start a new thread with pic and how you installed it and what controller you use.so if people search it would be easier for them to find and can post there questions there instead of asking about a Vic fan in a HHR thread.

At least these are fans from American cars, choose one that is readily available to replace or service later. I like the Volvo fan I used on my V6, but I would not do that again.

Look carefully at the design of the fan blades, be sure the fan itself is efficient. The best designs have the curved blades and not straight flat blades. You will see that if you compare fans on a site like Summit, check the CFM's and blade sizes. That's why the OEM fans do so well, and they come with decent shrouds.

Update...installed HHR fan on my 2004 today...took pics and it works GREAT. Will start a thread on the install in the 2002-2005 Modified forum and post the link when it's done.

Sweet, what motor is in that truck? Did you have to trim the motor any? Fri should be a good test day should be in the 90s.hows your other project coming ;)

Truck motor is an SOHC V-6. No trimming of the fan motor needed at all...I've got all kinds of space in there. Only trimming I did was the plastic tabs at the top and bottom of the fan and along the edge that sits against the radiator.

Here's my write up with pics: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2442062#post2442062

As far as the other project...got the choate dragunov stock and tapco forend on and I have my POSP Pro 8x42 scope. Now looking for a good scope mount and deciding on a bipod. Oh, and waiting for Dinzag to get my FSB back with some tools so I can thread the barrel for the JP Tactical muzzle brake.

Bringing up an old thread but I have a 1993 sport with A/T and my old 1992 with a m/t (that is salvaged thanks to a dodge ram)

I read that the hhr fan will fit with the m/t radiator but a few posts that it will fit with the a/t.

Id prefer not to have to do the mod only to find out that I need to swap radiators half way through.

Can someone give me some insight on this before I start taking things apart? Thanks in advance guys.

I would suggest a different fan..

What do you suggest? Water pump is starting to leak so the fan and shroud are coming off anyways soon so its a cool time to figure this out.

There is many options out there. Personally I run a fan from a supercharged thunderbird. Same fan motor as the Taurus fan, just smaller shroud and different blade designs (moves more air than Taurus)they are to find though so just a regular Taurus fan seems to be the preferred fan.

The hhr didnt keep my truck cool but if you search it has worked for others tho

Thats what everyone seems to be saying. I dont have a problem trimming the fan shroud at all my only concern would be closing the gap between the two shrouds. Ill have to look into making a complete one off shroud for the Taurus fan.

You shouldnt need to use both shrouds. Just trim and mount the Taurus fan to the radiator

This is my sc tbird setup.fits much nicer and uses same motor as Taurus

Is that mounted on a a/t radiator or manual?

Would make no difference. Both radiator are same size beside thickness. .but its on a manual

Yes I know they are different thicknesses. I am just wondering if everything will clear on an automatic transmission radiator.

Also I noticed my AT radiator has cooler lines going into it. The manual one doesnt. Wonder how I would bypass that

I cant comment on if it would fit or not but many others have made it fit....I run a isolated independence transmission cooler, plus the stock one.thats why I run the manual radiator on this truck.just search. Gota be a thousand threads on efan swaps..:salute:
