Child Safety Locks

Can anyone tell me how to disengage the safety locks on the rear doors of a 1996 Ltd.? I have tried putting the switch in both positions, but neither seems to allow a person in the rear seat to open the doors. Help is greatly appreciated.

You may have to manually take off the door panels and mess with it to get them unstuck.

Ran into the same problem on my 97. Rear doors wouldn't open from the inside even with the child safety locks unlocked. I ended up pulling off the door panels and lubeing up pivot points and linkage inside there. This helped greatly, but they still want to stick once in a while, so maybe I'll have to get in their again.
