I seek information on chips to improve performance. Please explain the the good and the bad points, if any. Also please explain the differences in the different manufacturers models.
Where do I find the computer/code in a 99 v6 soch truck?
Thanks....

I got the JET chip in my 91'. Love it. About 30 miles more to a fill-up. The only time I know it's there is passing at 40+mph speeds and when I'm towing.

Chips

Aldive,

I HAD the Jet chip, then I removed it to go in for my semi annual Smog Check. I couldn't tell the difference in performance! I didn't bother to put the Jet chip back in. Instead I bought a Superchip through Smartyparts (check the Explorer Resources page here on the site). I could definitely tell the difference! All of this is "seat of the pants" since I'ver never had the truck on a dyno. There are posts on here about people actually LOSING HP with the Jet chip! Do a search for Chips and you'll find quite a few comments, experiences. BTW, Smartyparts gives members of this website a discount.

I gotta back up Ray, Superchip is definitely the way to go! With the other mods I have, when I put it to the floor at a light, I almost lit up the tires, and I have AWD (had to try it at least once!!! pinned me back in the seat!!). HP is improved, MPG is still in question. One of the only bad things about having a chip, is that you have to run premium unleaded, which is a few pennies more at the pumps. Also got my chip through Smartyparts, ask for Chris. You should be able to find your ECU code on the label on top of the ECU. I'm not sure where they are located in the V6. In my V8, its mounted in the passenger side firewall, and is accessed via the engine compartment.

The code is located on the pass side firewall in the egine compartment and has 4 letters/numbers. An example would be TTY2 as a code. You can find it easily right above the interior climate fan housing.

Any help in locating this code on a 99 v6 sohc?
Thanks in advance....
