Just recently I have been hearing a clicking/chirping sound from my 06 Merc Mntnr V6 4.0 when idling and also gets faster when accelerating as well. Anyone know what the issue is or any good guesses?

Does it happen in park? I would start with looking at the serpentine belt and check the idler pulley and tensioner pulley for play in the bearings. A quick test you can try to see if it is comming from the serpentine belt or accessories that it drives is to take the belt off then start the car to see if the noise goes away but dont let it run too long because the belt drives the water pump and cooling fan. Another test to see if it is the belt is to spray water on the belt while the car is running if the noise goes away then comes back its belt related.

Could be a lot of things. Does it happen at a certain RPM, or within a range of RPM's? Perhaps between 2500 RPM and 3000 RPM?

it will be making intermittent noise while at 700RPMs then gets worse till around 5000 plus RPM.

Changing the serp. belt stopped the noise completely!! I will change out the tensioner and pulley just to be safe though. Thanks RCflyer330.
