Clicking when accelerating?

Hello. I have recently noticed when I push on the gas pedal there is a clicking noise that comes from what sounds like my dashboard. The harder I push on the gas pedal the faster this clicking get, and when I stop applying pressure to the gas pedal the clicking stops. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what would cause this. If it helps I have a 2000 Limited Ford Explorer. Could I fix it on my own? Thanks!

Hard to guess without hearing the sound. I'd look for a vacuum leak causing the vacuum actuators to not hold their position.

I would also check for exhaust manifold leak.
