Hi, my clutch went off last friday. Here in Costa Rica spare parts are incredibly expensive so I figured out how much it would cost me changing all the stuff (at the dealer they call it "clutch kit") and it was around $650.. The thing is, I'm visiting Syracuse NY next week because of job issues and thought about purchasing the parts there. The problem is that I don't know the names of the parts in english, only in spanish, so can somebody tell me what do I have to go look for at the dealer? Is there a better place to buy spare parts? Do you think it would be cheaper to buy the parts there than here in my country? My car is a 93 Explorer XLT with manual transmission.

Thank you guys!

Just an FYI, you can use Rockauto.com for international shipping. Since you're going to NY, maybe you could order the Rock Auto parts and have them shipped to somewhere in NY?

Hopefully the guys here can get you some Ford part numbers. That way, you don't have to know names, just numbers and letters :)

Here's what you want from rockauto, or anywhere else you choose to get it: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=4696896&cc=1119620
LUK is the brand Ford put in yours at the factory. All you should buy at a dealership is the slave cylinder. Aftermarket slaves are mostly questionable quality.

But, before you go throwing new parts in, what happened exactly that makes you think you need a new clutch?

Thanks guys I'll be checking the link later today.. Uhm about two months back from now the car started to "slip" after you made the gear change. Like, you were driving and you made an upshift and then when the new gear was engaged revs went higher than expected or if you were in 4th and suddenly wanted to change lane and put a little bit more pressure to the accelerator, revs went higher than they should and if you released the gas pedal just a lil bit the revs went down were they should've been. That happened from 3rd to 5th but if you were static and released the clutch on a hill it slipped until you had plenty of momentum and then it would safely engage. Last friday as I came by from the beach (the road has a lot of climbing) I noticed the revs slipping again and as I arrive to the steepest part and made change from 4th to 3rd the car just slipped revs and started to white-smoke from under the transmission and then suddenly it lost momentum and when I tried to accelerate again it made nothing.. Had to call assistance and everything because the car just didn't move.

I forgot to mention on the last message, my car has 153k miles. I just went through rockauto.com and this is what emerged. Can you help me? I don't know which one I should buy.. Does somebody has any idea which is best and which offers best value for money? Any experiences with those brands in the links below? Thank you!!

Take a look at the list on RockAuto, there's little heart icons next to the most popular items. That gives you a good indication of the better parts.

From your list, I would put the LUK kit in. My next choice would be a SACHS kit. I believe I have the LUK kit in my truck right now.

Benjam :D

I guess you didn't see my post?
Get the LUK kit.
It's what Ford used.
I used LUK when i did clutched in my two trucks.
Whichever brand you end up getting, be SURE to put in a new slave, and if you're smart, you'll get the slave from the dealership.
