I have a 97 Sport with a 5-speed and I hate it. It suffers from the typical premature slave cylinder failure. Which means that it is difficult and sometimes impossible to get it into gear without pumping the pedal or shutting it off. I have been told that there are a couple different styles of slave cylinders for it. I was told that Raybestos makes a redesigned slave cylinder that has the throw out bearing incorporated in it. The dealer said that they think that theirs is the same style. (However, they still sell the throw out bearing separately) I heard that the failure of the slave cylinders is due to a defective lip seal. Does anybody know? I have seen that there is a tsb and a service bulletin on this issue. Since I have to remove the transmission. I want it fixed right. If anyone has replaced their slave cylinder, I would love to hear about your experience. Thanks

As far as I know there have been a few updated slave cylinders. The newer style has a dust boot on it to help with the lip seal leaking.

Hard Shifting

My Clutch Slave Cylinder just went out and i was experiencing the same issues would a second gear grind on the down shift be related or should i have them looking for something else also.. Thanks all
