Just bought a used 4R55E transmission for my 1995 XLT explorer
Got code 628 after 45 miles of driving
How do I fix this problem?
Thanks in advance

Do you have any TC lockup? or the rpms fly all over the place? What colour is the fluid, why did you replace the transmission in the first place? I would have changed the TC with a transmission change anyways...

Thanks for reply.

TC is torque converter correct?
To my knowledge I didn't get a new TC installed.
I replaced transmission due to a failure, it was revving up to 5K rpm and I was barely going 20 mph.
At that point I wasn't able to shift into reverse and in all gears it was engaged in drive.
Thinking back I would have just bought a totally remanufactured/ brand new transmission.
So you think it is the TC as problem?
No it isn't slipping as far as rpm goes now.
To me it feels very solid, better than it ever has.
Fluid is brand new, also has new filter and gasket.
As far as I know there is no TC lockup.
Code 628 is excessive converter clutch slippage.
So a new torque converter would fix this?

I THINK there is a TC lock up solenoid somewhere. Could be bad causing a no lock up situation. Don't jump to conclusions and just change the converter. Try to figure out the real issue first. If the trans feels solid there's a chance it's something else.

Thanks for reply

Thank you for your input. I really appreciate it.
