2014 Explorer PIU 3.7L
Hello!
First post on here.. So thankful for this forum and the information that I have got from it.

I am just wondering if a CAI for the 3.7L turbo is worth upgrading, or is the stock one decent?
i am looking for a slight performance boost and a louder turbo so i would probably go with the K&N high flow(69-3531TS)
any information this specific one or other better options would be awesome!
Thanks!

The 3.7 doesn't come with turbos. You will either have a 3.5 with turbos or a 3.7 police interceptor utility. Either way the factory intake is pretty good and you won't gain much, if any, with an aftermarket intake. In fact some even draw hot air from the engine compartment which will lose hp when the engine has to pull timing due to high IATs. Stick a K&N filter in the stock box.

Sorry to interrupt, but what exactly is 3.7L? Is it the engine size or the size of gasoline? And why has the L? Thank you!

And Merry Christmas to everyone!

3.7 liters. Size of the engine. The 3.7L came in the police interceptor utility models.

The 3.7L engine is not turbocharged at all. The Ecoboost variant of the 3.5L is turbocharged.

All vehicles sold in the US for the past 40 years (at least) have come with CAI. Aftermarket intakes with exposed filters are not CAI - they're HAI. If you want CerAI, wrap foil bubble insulation around the filter box and the tube(s) between it & the throttle body so that engine heat doesn't get in. That was dyno-proven in the early 90s to be effective on a Ford F-series, but I don't think anyone has published any tests since then on any other vehicle. Try Googling "Project MPG". You may have to check the Wayback Machine (internet archive).

Some cars do have restrictions in the intake that benefit from an aftermarket cold air intake. With that being said I have datalogged the 3.5 TT and the 3.5 NA. Neither one showed a restriction in vacuum that would warrant an aftermarket system. On the NA I think the biggest benefit would be headers, high flow cats, and remove the small restrictive pipe with the squish after the cats. With the stock exhaust and intake I am getting ambiant air pressure at WOT on the 3.5 NA. No restriction.
