I've started researching the castings incorporated in the V6 engine manufactured in Cologne, Germany with emphasis on the 4.0L SOHC V6. The information I find will be documented in this thread to keep it organized. I encourage others to add to it and mention any errors.

The 4.0L OHV V6 engine was incorporated in the following vehicles:
Ford Aerostar (1990–1997)
Ford Explorer/Mazda Navajo
Ford Ranger/Mazda B-Series

The 4.0L SOHC V6 engine was incorporated in the following vehicles:
Ford Explorer/Mercury Mountaineer (1997–2010)
Ford Mustang (2005–2010)
Ford Ranger (2001–2011)
Land Rover Discovery 3/LR3 (2005–2009)
Mazda B4000 (2001–2010)

The first number in the casting number is the year of the casting (i.e. 97=1997, 5=2005)

I suspect the 2005 block casting is the one that reduced the clearance for the front (left) cassette pivot pin.
