- 2005 Ford Explorer
Hi Everyone,
Recently my alternator started going out, and after replacing it with the help of write-ups and videos from this forum, my battery, which was six years old also started giving me problems. This is when the computer on my 2005 explorer went into a test mode.
The computer started "sweep checking" the gauges, testing all the systems, displaying fuel rates, check sum data and voltage output. I put a new battery in and everything returned to normal.
My question is why did the computer do this and is there a way to force it to do it to obtain this information in the future?
Chris
P.S. Thanks you to the forum as the rebuilt alternator was $120.00 and my free labor. The Ford dealer quoted my $300.00 for the part alone.
