In my never ending quest for better mileage and efficiency, I have spent significant time researching computer chip and Flasher tunes. Now its field trial time. I will be testing or have tested tunes from the following:

Apten ( http://www.apten-us.com/ ) ( when Brian Herring was there ) this was a single program chip designed for mileage using 93 gas

Apten ( post Brian ) 2 Flasher tunes see http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108461&highlight=apten

BamaChips ( http://www.bamachips.com/ ) – 1 Flasher tune ( a 93 octane performance tune )

Hypnotic Illusions Automotive ( http://www.hypillauto.com/ ) 3 Flasher tunes ( a 93 octane economy tune, an 87 octane economy tune, and a 93 octane performance tune )

In all fairness, there are other tuners out there; however, I have not tested their product nor will they be included in this evaluation.

This phase of testing involved the evaluation of two parameters, first, the very subjective seat of the britches “feelâ€￾ and engine smoothness and next, the quantative evaluation of mileage on the highway. The next phase will be taking the top three tunes to the dyno for testing and fine tuning.

To keep potential bias out of the subjective evaluations, I am having two friends road test each tune without knowing which was which, Further, I will be testing the tunes also not knowing which was which.

The results should be available in about a week.

I am real interested in the results. I am planning on getting a flasher, but am unsure in which one to get. I am glad to see that you will be putting them all to the test against each other, so we can see the difference between them.

The Flasher is the same, a SCT Microtuner. It is the tunes it contains ( and I can upload myself ) that is the difference.

UPDATE: Business obligations have delayed the final evaluations. The trail should be completed very soon.

Hey al, could you do the pros and cons of all 3 and evaluate which is the best value?(even though it may not be THE best)

And also some cost projections of using 93 octane despite better mileage (if any)?

Thanks!

If I wasnt in the process of buying a house and moving 250 miles I would have a V-8 tune comparison.

After I get settled I will do this for the 5.0 folks if it hasnt been done by then.

I'm really looking forward to this Al. Thanks for doin this

What you are requesting, though a great concept, is simply not possible due to variations in the mods made to one's truck as well as other parameters.

The data presented by me will be results of the tunes made for me and my needs/truck.

Again, cost of fuel comparisons have many individual parameters too.
