i buddy of mine recently made a smoke machine for finding vacuum leaks and what not. to me, even though my truck isnt fully tuned yet, it still didnt seem to be running correctly. i asked if i could borrow his machine to make sure i didnt have any major leaks. when i hooked it up and pressurized it (it only has a bout a pound of pressure to btw) smoke was coming out of the egr vents in the egr. also yes, this was done with the motor not running, but the motor was warm. should i see this, or should there be nothing coming from those vents?

Ok, I feel dumb for asking what an egr vent is.

Are you speaking of the slots in the cap on the egr vacuum regulator?

edit
If you are forcing smoke into the intake system, I think some will come out from the exhaust due to valve overlap-no?

on the underside of the egr valve there are slots (or vents)......if i am not wrong. if not, my new egr valve is shot.
and i am sure you are correct about some going into the exhaust.
i also did discover that my pcv valve pushed out, or fell out again.....covering the back of the motor with oil, yay...

I have an old take-off EGR valve that I tested by
blowing into the intake side, and air indeed came
out of the EGR vents. Why they're vented like that,
I don't know...? Perhaps that's some sort of safety
mechanism in case of a backfire through the intake
manifold...?
