Has anyone used a Cool Coolar on their oil filter?

Looks like this might be a useful accessory. And for those of us who have external auto tranny filters it might be to ticket to lower tranny temp.

Liquid Cooled Automotive Engine (Road Test)

This test was an actual highway test. The car used was a late model Corvette equipped with digital readout oil temperature and coolant temperature gauges. On a 72 degree F. day, at 65 miles per hour, the oil temperature read a constant 221 degrees F. The water temperature was 195 degrees. The corvette was then pulled off the road and a Cool Collar was installed. Testing was then resumed. Within a distance of five miles the Cool Collar was responsible for lowering and maintaining the oil temperature at 203 degrees F.

Summary: Our tests again indicated a 12% approximate reduction above ambient temperature of oil heat. On similar testes, it was found that after installation of the Cool Collar the oil temperature will typically drop near to the level of the engine coolant temperature.

I've heard of it, but never heard of anyone using it. I'm curious to hear others thoughts on it.

I have ordered several and shall see how it does, especially on the tranny temp.

Let me know how it works out for you. I have my external tranny filter set up and I love it. Real world numbers would be great. If it does in fact work like it says it does, I might get a couple for myself.

I have a digital ( Dakota Digital ) tranny temperature gauger; we should have some good data.

weird..

IMHO wont do much if anything... it might thicken the oil too much inside the filter.

The SA for that device is relatively low compared to the SA of even a small radiator, and the contact between the metal housing and grill is poor. It wont, IMHO, do much.

Why not run a tranny cooler? And, that said, why not run an external oil filter/cooler, too? I cannot believe cooler oil would affect the tranny oil temp (that much).

I have the factory extra tranny cooler as well as an external cooler.

I do run an external filter.

I plan on first using the Cool Collar on the oil filter that is used as my external tranny filter. I also have a Dakota Digital tranny temp gauger and can readily see what effect the device has on tranny temp. Every little bit helps.

We shall see what happens once it is installed and road tested' I shall report.

I think he intends to put the collar on his external tranny filter to lower that temp ;)

Really I post only to subsrcibe to your updates

This is true and based on the results, I shall install Cool Collars on both oil filters as well.

Personally, I think it belongs in the same category as the throttle body spacer and tornado. I don't think it'll do much.

One never knows until they try, do they.

They used to think the world was flat ...........

True story.

Sorry, I misunderstood. My bad.

But, I am curious if it does work. Any chance you could duct cool air from your lower valence to blow on the filter/Cool Collar?

I am not sure that would be necessary since there is an abundance of turbulent external ambient air present already. However, I shall keep that in mind, thanks.

I'd hope it works considering the oil filter is right next to the exhaust on my OHV, not the best place for it. Keep us posted

Makes one wonder, if the heat given of by your exhaust is hotter than the oil in the filter, will the heat travel the otherway

Like Al mentioned, there is quite a bit of turbulent air in there while in motion. But, sitting in traffic? The tranny shouldn't be heating up too much while idle but the heat from the exhaust might be a concern. I guess it pays to locate the remote filter base forward, toward the radiator.

My aux tranny filter is no where near the exhaust for that very reason.
