My aux tranny filter is no where near the exhaust for that very reason.

Not trying to be a jerk, but then your test doesn't really help those of us with oil filters near our exhaust. What are you testing? Your tranny fluid or your oil temp.? Sorry, I'm confused, but if your testing your rather unique setup then I don't know what good it does to anyone without the same setup.

Wait, nevermind, I think I'm just confusing myself... Ignore me.

Well, he is going to put one on his stock-location oil filter, too. That's probably near the exhaust pipe.

al: Regarding these collar-type coolers, I have seen them for a long time. I have never experimented with them though. Some people claim they only help with racing vehicles; not with every day use. Your experiment will let us see.

You know al, I have a possible suggestion if you want more results: Use a thermoplastic adhesive material between the cooler and the filter surface, where they contact (which is all the way around, I assume.). This type of adhesive allows for better heat transfer between the two surfaces. But then, when the time comes to throw away the filter, it might be difficult to remove the collar...nevermind, probably not a good idea. Works well for computer CPUs but probably not well for disposable oil filters...

Excellent thought, however, I as you mentioned, think it would make filter replacement a PIA.

if it were me i would just install a real oil cooler that would probrally work much better as well a increasing the capasity a small amount. i dont think much air will flow through the past the filter on a sohc

Have you installed such a cooler? How did it perform?

The device is going on an oil filter that is used as an axillary tranny filter and is mounted in the passenger side wheel well, nowhere near the motor, as is shown in the photo in an earlier post.

i installed one for my uncle cause he uses hix explorer for towing he doesent have a temp gauge for the oil but he said it runs a little smoother and the oil seems to last longer.

you just install it with this thing that screws on where the oil filter goes and it has an inlet and an outlet and the cooler just attaches to the radiator and then the oil filter screws on to that
