Need some help with a coolant leak on my 02 V6 Explorer. I just found out where the leak is coming from. It leaking at what appears to be the thermostat housing. This is a plastic two piece assembly with gasket and it leaking at the gasket. The top piece is held in place with three tight bolts. The top radiator hose connects to this.

Wondering if the top piece warps with age and needs replacing or just replace the gasket? I suppose the bottom piece could be warped but I don't know. Have you guys seen this before?

Thanks,
BT :)

Thanks, great info. Now to begin the repair. bt :)

Just go ahead and replace both pieces of the housing, the thermostat and the temp sensor while you are doing the job.
