Hi guys,
I have searched and read all the threads similar to my problem, but none are exactly the same. My 97 4.0 ranger's coolant overflow tank has been running dry after about a weeks worth of driving. After getting out of the vehicle I can smell a faint odor of coolant. With the truck still hot I searched all over and under - no leaks anywhere. The truck runs fine at all loads and rpms and no codes. Any troubleshooting ideas to narrow down the leak? I have a pressure tester, but am unsure how to use it to find an internal leak....

Thanks for the help

Remove the radiator cap, and connect the pressure tester. Make sure that there is coolant or water in the system. Don't pressurize a dry system. Pump the tool until it reaches about 15 Lbs of pressure, and see if the gauge maintains the same amount of pressure for a few minutes. Check the rubber hoses for leaks.
