has two o-rings, but it looks as if some gasket sealer was also used.

Use just the o-rings?

I'd replace the O rings, if you can.
 






Yeah, I have the O-rings, wonder if it needs a lil more help. Don't want to install the intake and have that tube leak.
 






Be sure to clean the inside of the tube. If there is any crud built up, it may keep the o-rings from sealing properly.
 






Based on this item, I'm thinking the o-rings were originally coated in orange.

The Felpro ones I have are just black.

Just use the O rings. I don't think the orange coating is doing much of anything.
In your pic, I can see black where it looks like is already starting to flak off.
