1995 Ford Explorer
I have a 1995 4x4 Explorer, and from what I understand this is a bubble year for code readers, and I am not sure which one I need.

As of today I have the CEL constantly on and the OD light blinking. Reading through the forums it seems that the blinking can be anything from low fluid, torque converter, solenoid, etc.... and without the code it is a guessing game.

It also seems like that standard code readers won't read the transmission codes, is that correct?

Will this code reader work:

If not will any on this page (for tranny codes too of course):

You can tell if its OBD-I or OBD-II by the connector.

Newer OBD-II

Older OBD-I

Start by determining what you have. Probably OBD-I

Its obd1!!!

You have OBD 1!!!! In 1995, Ford had just introduced the second generation explorers, they placed a dummy (aka non usable) OBD2 plug in the driver's footwell in anticipation for the 1996 and later OBD2 models. The plug will not work with OBD2 readers. To use a reader, you need to get the FORD OBD1 reader and finder the harness in the engine bay, I believe mine is near the power steering reservoir. The only garage that can read my codes for FREE is PEPBOYS. If you have one near you, it might be worth it to give them a call first. Just don't buy the OBD2 reader.
