Could this be the hubs?

With my dads truck if you put it in reverse and crank the wheel all the way to the right you can hear and feel a grinding front the front left. Which I'm positive is the hub.

But when youre rolling along slowly you can hear a metal-on-metal sound. It alternates from a scraping like sound to a tinging, which both sound like metal-on-metal. You can't hear it at speed I think.

Times for new hubs, isnt it?

Have you tried cleaning the hubs? (putting them in ATF overnight?) They might just be over-greased.
 






Take off the hub(s) and test it for a short slow drive. Stay out of the dirt. If the noise is still there, it's not the hubs. ;)

I'd check the bearings and brakes.
