Recently I had replaced all cooling components water pump, complete thermostat housing assembly, hoses etc. Plus I had replaced the front main seal and the harmonic balancer with the newer designed one that Ford recommended. Considering the newer design of the balancer I also put a new crank sensor on it. All the parts were Motorcraft, once I had it all back together the damn thing would not start. So I worked back put the old sensor back on and she fired up, once the vehicle warmed up she started to misfire really bad and stall out. After messing around with it for a few days I ended up putting the old balancer back on and she started up and ran just as she did prior to working on her.
I had been driving it around for almost a week before the damn light came on and threw the 430 code. I reset the cpu and considered that the o2 have never been replaced, with the rough misfire she had due to the balancer not jiving I figured something got knocked around? My plugs have about 10k on them along with new wires. The vehicle no longer misfires after correcting the balancer issue.
After a few days the damn thing threw the same code, so I replaced the o2(Motorcraft) and all seemed well. A few days later the same code popped up again, the cats themselves are looking flawless but the pipe that leads to the last cat has decent corrosion on it but is still intact.
Although I have only around 10k on the plugs I would not rule it out, btw they are ngk iridium the only after market part on the vehicle. My concern would be more of a intake leak or a weak injector of sorts. As much as I would love to have a nice exhaust I would not be surprised if something comes up again. Trust me fellas, I have been tempted to cancel the order considering that it has been more than a few days now since I have seen the engine light come on again.
Thanks for the input,
Merlin
