CRLCustoms Bumper Installed!

My new rear bumper is installed! Thanks to CoryL at CRLCustoms.com for a great job. Cory and I worked together to modify his original design for my needs. I needed a strong reciever hitch, didn't want to sacrifice visibility too much, and wanted a short swinging arm. Cory delivered!

All my recent pics can be found here:

I painted the bumper with Rustoleum Hammered finish paint in a charcoal color. I ziptied my plate to the swinging arm as you can see, and put the plate light on the main bumper. The plate is thus up and out of the way when I go wheeling, and I'm legal with the lamp. The spare has a lock over one of the lugs to deter theft. The swinging arm is as short as possible so it's easier to open in tight situations.

You can see the spare does block visibility of the taillamps from the rear of the truck. I'm going to install some red LEDs in the center of the spare for brake and turn signals. I may put 4 instead of 2 for more visibility and/or to also restore the running lamp. In Texas you legally need 2 red running lamps in the rear, as well as 2 side brake lamps and of course the blinker. Hopefully for now I'll get away with no clearly visible passenger side running lamp.

That's it for now!

Does having all the weight on the one side make a difference, also what about your tail light??? It is covered up!!!!!!!!!!

No, and READ MY POST!

sorry..........I see. Very interesting. :)

Have you also considered a 33x9.50 mudder for the spare?

I like it! Looks beefy!!!
You could get the little plastic guard from a BII that goes on top of the bumper and below the tailgate to hide those frame horns and the wiring.

Do you need light on your plate? If so Duff makes those wicked billet plate light/fasteners, they are what I use, they work awesome, for you will need some sort of a plate mount (top two holes). When you say you are "legal with the lamp" are you talking about the plate illumination???
what lamp??

Texas law states you need at least one plate lamp and the plate needs to be visible at night at 50 feet. So I'm legal with that one. I am not legal right now with the taillamps, to be fixed soon.

My 33x12.50 BFG MT works fine for the spare. Why do you suggest the other, so it's smaller? That would just look weak IMO.

As for covering the other stuff up, it's not bad, no worse than what you saw with the stock bumper on there.

For comparison, here is the bumper he made for JoshC:

You can see he swapped the design of the carrier for better rearward visibility. Too bad it blocks the lights ;)

Hey Now!! That is MY bumper!!!:D

I like the design changes, but couldn't get away with that in VA. Any stock light must be visible at all times.

Hmmm.... I think that's a bit overkill to gain visibility through your center rear view mirror. Of course that's just my 2 cents worth.

The 9.5 would just be a little more skinny and weight slightly less, just an idea.....I get sick of my huge ass tire sticking out out 6" past the bumper.........

I Cant wait to see the LEd's..... Its nice for giving you what you wanted and for being so beefy!

I cant see jack squat out of the rear of the BII anyways, even without the tire back there, but with a 33 it gets even worse........Did that sucker block some of your view out the pass side mirror?

Looking good. I like it.

looks great!

I agree. Even with LEDs, cops are going to be on your ass.

Looks good Alec. That thing looks funny cause i'm so use to seeing mine!

For comparison if someone is considering one, here is mine with a 35x12.50

Happy trails!!

Another thing you might consider Alec for covering up the frame, here is a small picture of what i did to mine. I've got a huge sheet of 3/8s diamond plate, it wasn't long enough to strech across the truck, so you can see the weld on it, but it works great and you can step on it.

Happy trails!!

I wonder how one would look on a Ranger, but I would want the tire carrier centered to the truck, it's jersey

I've seen one on here somewhere that had one on a ranger, can't remember the dudes name. It looked really good though. He had a topper on his truck too.

Happy trails!!

was that the Wrangler tire carrier adapted to fit the Ranger? If so, that's the type of thing I'm looking for, but I'd like to make one modification, I want a carrier that swings out, and drops down, although, I probably don't need it:D and it sounds that Cory's prices are just about right, it's more cost effective for me to buy one, rather than fab my own up, I can do it, but he has a design that works, and I'm sure it took a long time to ge t the bugs worked out. Cory, I remember a while back, on RRORC, that you made up a tube front bumper for one of the members, looked a bit like a pre runner bumper, but looked a bit stronger than most. I tried to look for pics, and was wondering if you had any.:D I think I may be taking a few trips to KY at some point in the near fututure:)

Well I didn't expect to have the lights blocked, it just ended up that way

I wired up a running light and blinker/brake lights tonight. They're getting mounted tomorrow. With them mounted there will no longer be any question of light visibility. All I did is get an extension for my 4 pin trailer harness. I'm gonna have these lights run off that. When I run a trailer, I'll just unplug them and plug in the trailer. This was much easier than going into the stock taillight wiring.

A cop followed me tonight for about 2 miles and didn't say anything.

I like it. I have been tempted to get one except I have other things that need financial assistance first. But I do agree that it is a little overkill for visibility.
