Cruise Control Issue

I have searched the forums and cannot find a similar problem described elsewhere.

2000 Explorer XLT. When driving, to activate the cruise control, I hit the On switch as normal and then the Set/Accel switch. The light on the dash comes on. I take my foot of the throttle and it's clear that the cruise control is not working.

Any ideas where I should start?

Cable would be the first thing to check first. The light will stay on even if the servo is bad. I had the same problem as you when I first bought my X and was replaced under warranty. It was a common problem according to Ford.
