i want to cut the rest of the exhaust pipe after the muffler. Will there be anothing wrong with doing that? Will anything bad happen?

in most states, its illegal to have exhaust exit the exhaust system underneath the vehicle. also, youll lose some backpressure; the way the truck runs and feels will reflect that.

ditto. btw, I think it's a federal law that exhaust can't exit underneath or to the side of the passenger compartment.

oh, and please don't double post.

It will make it louder. However as previously stated, it is illegal and dangerous. And in CA, you're very likely to get a ticket for it.

Thanks but...

im just going to get and exhaust cut out that is control from the dash. So i can open it and close it when i want to. IM not going to get a ticket for it because where i live all the kids at my school have there cars with just the header on or straight pipes or glass packs or something that is illegal to make it louder and none of them get ticketed because the cops already know who they are and there over it, so they jsut let them go.:)

huh? the only thing i ever heard of thats kinda similar to what youre talking about are dump tubes, but i dont think you can hook em up to a remote switch or something. theyre usually held on with wing nuts or regular nuts.

In the past, those things leaked. Beware the mighty CO! Further, they do nada except make noise' is that what you want?

Most cutouts do leak. There is one that JCWhitney sells that is controlled via a cable, it's a butterfly valve.

Are you doing this for sound or performance? Getting a tuned exhaust system is gonna give you much better performance, and can be almost as loud. You might lose torque using a cutout.

yup what he said

i just ordered the one off of jc whitney and im doing for the sound and performance. My friend from school has a 302 v8 mustang (he' s abig motorhead) and he put it on his stang and it was so much louder and he said he felt maybe around a 10-15hp max from it. I believe because hes serious when it comes to cars and doesnt lie about stuff like this. I wanted to buy it through him because he has a good hook up at summit but they only have the one that bolts on and i dont want to get out to unbolt and bolt it when i want it on or off.

Well, if he is "claiming" ANY HP gain from a cut out.... well you make the call.

The Mustang 302 and Explorer 4.0 OHV are different motors. You may lose too much backpressure and thus lose torque. You will gain some upper rpm hp though.

I still think it's a really bad idea as I've ridden in vehicles with cutouts and could smell the exhaust inside. Remember that breathing exhaust is very bad and carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless, and deadly.

oh well i already ordered it. Ill just close it when i dont want to use it.

on mine, i just run a straight pipe after the cats, it exits in the stock location. its loud, i didnt notice any drop in performance either. just dont expect to drive throuhg the neighborhood late at night without callin alot of attention. just keep in mind, its gonna be loud, real loud. ive dynamatted and did the sprayin sound deading in the rear cargo area and all the doors, and its hard to hold a conversation while accelerating. if your livin with your folks, they WILL know somethin is different.

dont waste your money one that remote cutout all it is is a peice of plumbing with a biutterfly that leaks and sounds like crap, and also you cannot weld to it im running flowtech race readies and takes 2 mins to undo both and theyre 25 bucks!
