D-Link Wireless Range Expander

Like many of you out there, my wifi reception in many parts of my house is limited. Whether it be caused by construction, location of router, type of wireless adapter or interference, D-Link has released a wireless range expander that can greatly increase your reception. Unlike Linksys Wireless Range expander that is only 802.11 G compatible and requires certain Linksys routers, the D-Link Wireless Range Expander works on all brands and speeds.
My current setup is a wireless router Netgear 54 mbps router located in my basement along with my patch panel. Unfortunately upstairs on the 2nd floor, the wireless signal strength was reduced significantly due to location of the router. I installed the D-Link wireless Range expander on the main 2nd main floor hallway and configured it by changing my RJ-45 ethernet adapter to a static IP address and hooking up the provided Cat5E cable to the expander and entering in http://192.168.0.30 in the address box of my web browser. I had it do a site survey and I chose my wireless signal and entered in all the information for WEP encryption. Once that was complete, I removed the connection and re-enabled my wireless signal. Now I get full strength upstairs on the 2nd floor as well as on the first floor along with a stronger signal outside the house.

I definately recommend this product if you want to expand your wireless range.

Curious as to the construction/size of your home.

I had figured I would require a similar product when I moved into my new house last month, as it is much larger and was built 40+ years ago (read: very solid- 18” exterior walls), however even with my router located in the basement I am able to receive great signal on the second floor and even in the back yard.

Yet I have friends who own new houses, built with much less solid materials that have experienced major difficulties setting up wi-fi environments that service all areas of the home.

Seems to be no rhyme or reason……
