I just thought I would post this to see about getting another run planned in the near future. We finally had a succesful run hear in the Dallas metroplex. I met up with two other Exlorer owners from this web site at 10 this morning. We ended up going outside of Arlington Texas and met up with the North Texas Jeep Club (about fifteen heavily modified jeeps) It was a blast! I made the entire run with my 2wd drive (with some help from the winches and straps) only to bust my exhaust system and knocking my front right coil out of alignment. GJerrett made the run in his 1999 Explorer suffering only the loss of some of his tail pipe. We actually had to cut about a foot of his pipe off due to so much mud being packed in there. Are other Explorer owner (Ron?) made the run in what I believe was a 93-94 4wd with no problems (no lift). It was great to meet some of the people I have been talking to on this site for awhile! Between the three of us we have about 60 pictures of this great event. My Explorer will probably end up on the Jeep clubs web page for being the first 2wd vehicle they have seen do this course. Great job guys. It was a blast. Rick--- We will send you the pictures since we dont have the equipment that you do. Let us know if you need anything else.

Hey I'm for it. Pick a spot and let's do it again! You would not believe the run I made after you left. It surprised everyone including me that I made it. Anyway, I had a blast and let's do another run soon.

Gjarret is still probable washing the mud of his truck and the woodgrained dash! Dead Link Removed

Dead Link Removed Twenty one thumbs up!

I CANNOT BELIEVE what a basically stock 4x4 Explorer is capable of! Rob, I notice your nickname changed..... can you afford a "GoFast TransAm" AND a "NeedLift Explorer" and remain married?

Brian, are you going to get a locker or Auburn on that 2wd now?

Rob, I am kicking myself for not getting a picture of you climbing Moss Rock. I didn't think of it because I "knew" you wouldn't make it anyway and wasn't interested in getting a photo of someone dying. I actually had the camera IN MY POCKET but was so awestruck watching you actually make it I was braindead the whole time. You did great to have only lost one front license plate and have your side molding pop right back in place too with no visible damage.

After church yesterday morning I spent all day on the Explorer. No permanent damage and "EddieB" will look good as new by Friday. But it will take all week.

Damage report:
Tailpipe hacksawed one foot shorter and bent to the side behind the wheel after taking a core sample out of a creekbed after sliding backwards trying to get out. So THAT's why you guys say to get a side exit exhaust. Will make some sort of hanging attachment to keep the newly rerouted tailpipe in its new place.

Possible exhaust and tailpipe gasket damage from trying to run the engine while there is no escape for the exhaust.

Scratched up bottom front bumber. Touch up paint and grillguard in the near future plans.

I am dang lucky to have had the foresight to install a hidden hitch receiver on the back the night before, or my rear bumper would be level with my liftgate today. No bumper damage. Scars on my spare tire comfirm it also was used as a vehicle bottom bumper. I am sawing the receiver up a bit to fit the spare more easily under there. Four blades broken, I'm buying six more and should be finished tonite. And speaking of lucky, after surveying the bottom for damage, I occurred to me that it can only be by Divine itervention that I still have a catalytic convertor. How do you other guys protect that thing?

Mud up in crevices that I will never get out. My Explorer probably weighs another 50 pounds now.

My running boards.... oh boy. Eeuww. The bottom looks like Freddie Krueger sharpened his claws on them (new model Eddie Bauers are obviously NOT made for offroad). To their credit, they are much stronger than they look. They supported the entire weight of my vehicle on more than one occasion. They are also not quite level anymore, if you know what I mean. This week will be spent removing the attachment brackets and rebending them back to 90 degrees and reinstalling.

Funny clunking in front end at various times that I have not identified yet.

Made it out with only three of my original tires.

Loss of friends. I drove it to church as is Sunday. Nobody will park next to me or ride to lunch with me anymore. They look at me kinda funny now too.

I think I smudged my nice Zaino shine. If I can get beneath all this gunk later this week I'll see just how well Zaino REALLY protects.

Lastly, -sniff- my genuine Millineum Jack Antenna Ball was beheaded. Dead Link Removed

I have a feeling I came out lucky considering what could have happened. I don't know how many times a dude in a busted out J**p or '82 Toyota 4x4 with a handpainted Krylon camo paint job (body customized by several rollovers BEFORE putting the outside roll bars on) would come up to me and ask what in the !@?&%* I was doing out there in my nice vehicle (I couldn't think of an answer, so after awhile I started simply replying "Rick").

So, here's my immediate future mods wish-list as $$$ become available and before I try this again.

Front grillguard and winch.

winch Stuff. Clevis, D Rings, etc.

Towpoint so I never again have to crawl under it in an axle-deep mudhole in 43 degree weather to strap a winch hook under the SUV.

Another auto insurance agent.

CatchAll or HuskyLiners for the interior.

Fabricate plate steel "skis" to attach lengthwise to the running board underframe.

Aspirin and more water.

Some way to get more clearance and much bigger BFG AT ko's under there: possible hockey puck lift and front bumper spacers to move bumper up and an inch or two forward to provide the clearance needed. I am going to make it a mission to figure out how to install 285/75r16s under a new model Explorer. Probably impossible, but if I am successful I bet at lot of you are going to be glad I figured it out. It won't hurt to at least try before I settle for 265/75r16's.

Kitchen sink and a duck decoy.

Rick, this is all your fault.

GJerrett you crack me up! About that catalytic converter? Do you guys remember the first huge creek wall we climbed? Well I came down on top of the same rock that GJerrett hit and hurt my converter. I lost the rest of it yesterday (and ran over it). I had a blast. Things needed= Tow hooks, Winch, Money, Money, More money, More lift, Lockers, Money, Side exit exhaust, and more to come. It was a blast guys. I got my film developed. What about you guys? I would like to see about you guys mailing me your developed pics so that I can send them all to Rick at the same time. What do you think? I had doubles developed so that I have a copy and that way Rick doesnt have to worry about mailing them back to us. Let me know what you think.

I'm having my pics developed on CD. I'll e-mail you guys copies when I get them back on Wensday.

Had a blast.

BTW, how many post till I get a truck by my name?

How to protect your catalytic converter: get it up high out of the way! Dead Link Removed

I measured the clearance on my lifted '92 at 19"
On my stock height '98 it is 11.5"

Also on the '92 the cat is above the bottom of the frame rail and the 98 hangs a little below the frame rail.

Gerald, Like Rick said! We need to get those on our front windshields. I must have seen a dozen of them on the Jeeps.

( Of course, I still want them to strap me out of some of the silly places I land )

I think we surprised them with what we were able to do. Now... to do more!

Do you guys remember there faces when we pulled in? I loved it. This is basically a place that Jeeps go and we pulled in w/ our Explorers and they were shocked! I was pulling out and a guy in a Jeep Cherokee drove bye and said "You are a little out of place here" I thought that was pretty neat! Lets do it again. Rick thanks for this site

The only Damage I had was the removal of my Front License Plate at the Creek Crossing.

I also brought all my trash out with me that I took out there ( Pack Out, what you pack in) and I happened to bring back a lot more MUD than I took in. My reciver hitch is packed. My truck weighs a hundred punds more.

I did very well coming out with no damage.

I'm ready to run again.

Hey Brian,

You left a few hours ahead of us, so you missed watching the changing attitudes of the J**pers later on. I think the watershed event that turned everything was Rob making it up Moss Rock. We were looked at differently after that (alhough we still took a lot of ribbing that was all in fun and good taste!). Mark (in the Blue J**p) and Anthony "Thumper" both defended us and bragged on us later on when someone who had not been with us all day drove up and commented on us.

The Cherokee driver may not have been referring to your Explorer, but your 2wd. When's that locker getting put on? --hint hint -- Dead Link Removed

Hopefully I will get the lockers soon. I kind of want to wait until I get my body lift and 35's that way I can do the gears and locker at the same time. I might be selling my lifted Ford ranger to get a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. I will be keeping my 92 Explorer. My next investment on the 92 will be lift, locker, 35 Mud Terrain's. I dont want to tear up the Exploder to much, so I need to be careful out there. Rob? Where are the pictures? You are the only one that got pics. of my truck in action. Let me know.

[I just want to say that all of you did pretty damn good I would like to correct you in that the clubs name is Jeeps of North Texas of which I am a member and was out there when you were doing the trails in a garnet Jeep with a 302 FI Ford. I also have a 93'Explorer so as you can see I fit in both places, and was extremly curious when I heard you guys where coming thru the trails.Anyway hope to run into you out there again sometime and if it isn't a problem maybe someone can e-mail me the pictures and I will see about getting them on our web site if Steve or Anthony hasn't beaten me to it.Mike"302Jeep" @ A302Jeep@swbell.net

Good to hear from you 302Jeeper. I remember your rig. I really did have a blast and plan on returning soon after I get some of those mods I listed. I would really like to get my EddieB over Moss Rock, just for the shock value Dead Link Removed.

Are you also a member of another 4x4 club in Dallas? I think it is called DFW/DFW or something like that and supposedly is a club for all makes in addition to Jeeps. I may check it out.

Hope to see you again soon! You JNTers were truly great and a lot of fun. Besides all the ribbing I took on the CB I particularly enjoyed the woman (sorry, can't remember her name) with the boss white Jeep that couldn't bring herself to say the word "Explorer".

I know of that club it is FWD-FWD and I was a member of that club about 3-4yrs ago and the experience was not all that great, and I do not believe you would be happy. Unless the situation has changed I just do not think you would like it.
