93, 216K original motor.

Just put NGK fine electrode platinums in, removed Autolite platinums with about 30K or so on them, ran fine, but I notice it starts cold or warm easier with the new plugs, wasn't hard to start before but maybe 1-2 seconds longer crank and motor would stumble slightly for 1-2 seconds after light off whether hot or cold, can only attribute improvement to these new plugs of different/better design.

It will start and run smooth at that normal elevated idle cold or hot, 1200 rpm or so and seems smooth, then settles into this lumpy bump miss 1-2 a second, don't notice any or much roughness at elevated rpms especially when under load so I do not think it is ignition related, wires been in there a while but should be fine, moved some wires around, swapped with new, no change. Plugs have normal good brown color all the way around, gaps are good.

I notice in conjunction with this over last several thousand it seems to get poorer mileage especially around town when short tripped as compared to when on freeway trips the farther the better.

No CEL ever. I also cleaned the MAF element, looked really clean to start, no difference. Unplugged MAF to clean, but also removed battery cables and touched together. Seemed like it may have helped slightly for a short period but right back to same 'out of balance type lope' Seems worst at times at one rpm vs another, rougher at say 1000 rpm when warm than at 700 or 1200 etc.

I have read a little about fuel pressure regulator and thinking possibly something EGR related, like EGT on at light throttle low rpm when it shouldn't be, but never get a check engine light.

Any ideas? The lack of CEL intrigues me though I guess it could be burned out, i'll look for it if it is supposed to come on during the start sequence where a bunch of lights are on.

Something I forgot to mention when I first posted, so on edit. It needed a water pump for months. It was leaking from the water pump seal badly, so most of the fluid in the cooling system would not stay in it. I would move it from the driveway to the street now and then for exercise. I only ran it for 30-90 seconds or so at a time. I noticed it seemed to go into a limp mode of sorts with little coolant in it, presumably to make it harder to burn it up or otherwise hurt the motor? It had little power, if you tried to rev it much it wouldn't accelerate. If I put water back in it, even though it would leak out, rev/power issue was gone. While it was in this limp mode as I call it, it would seem to run mildly rough kind of the like the problem I describe with it now that everything should be back to normal. Strange.....

Did you put the leads in in the correct places? might be firing in the wrong order. also did you gap the new sparks correctly before putting them in? could be a misgapped spark. can't think of anything else but it's a couple of ideas for you.

Yes, all of that stuff is fine, and the motor is basically doing the same thing before and after plugs, other than starting better now with new plugs.

The miss feel is not as though it is running on 5. It is like it's running on 5.5, which is impossible, unless you have one firing half the time. But it is not consistent, motor seems smooth at higher rpm under load which is the opposite of what generally happens with an ignition related miss.

Try cleaning the IAC valve this controls just idling. I would also check all vacuum connections make sure all connection fit snugly. No lose connection or sometimes there could be a cracked hose right where in connects. Also check the intake tube for any cracks.

I would bet money you have a dirty fuel injector.

I have run some techron injector cleaner in the not too distant past. I'll pull the iac...i get the impression at times it may not be set correctly or something get a slight idle speed oscillation if I open the throttle a little...no load. I've never looked at it and don't think anyone else has. However, it would do that slight up and down hunt before...before this problem...never enough of an issue for me to hunt for the issue.

I have sealed up the intake elbow area...initial testing doesn't show any obvious leak, but maybe there is a slight one. However usually with a constant vacuum leak, hot running gets smoother than cool running. In this case it seems to be opposite. The high speed smoother than idle in this case DOES mimic typical vacuum leak. I do not see any codes though...may need to check and see if cel is burned out... Check for codes etc. I should see a lean code cel...which I have had before. I may also want to check on 02 sensor...not sure I've changed one...think I have but may want to check records...no other strange running...good high speed mileage...noticably worse short trip mileage though. I've seen 12-13 mpg...never went below 16-17 before.

Thanks
