Anyone experienced the insulation around the battery in the sport model completely falling apart and spreading a fine black dust through out the engine compartment. I would not think Ford would use this material if they knew it could not handle the heat. I am concerned my engine is producing excessive heat and that is what caused this.
Also, as an engine mane function is to suck in air I am really concerned as to how this will effect the engine in the long run. i have an appointment to bring it in to the dealership but due to the recent floods here in LA they can not see me until the end of October.

I never noticed any insulation around the battery on my 2011 Limited nor on my current vehicle. Why would it be there? Is this just unique to the Sport model?

Doesn't the block heater also include a battery heater? I remember my old 2002 Ranger did, but not sure if the 5th Gen Splorers do or not.

As for impact to engine, if your air filter system is in tact, it should not cause any detrimental affect to the engine other than make it dirty.

My 2011 had a block heater but no battery insulation. Had to look up my current MKT on Ford Etis to see if it had a block heater since I never looked for one or use it. Doesn't have one.

My 2016 Sport is just about to turn 1yrs old and the battery insulation is still in tact.
I also make it a habit to clean my engine compartment and haven't notice any excessive debris.

Is a wrap around blanket type? I wonder if all newer models have it?

I've read it is to prevent the battery from excess heat, not going to do a good job for that at this point.
Tried to attach a pic can't figure out how to attach

My '10 Explorer Sport Trac and '16 Platinum both have the battery insulation blanket. The one on the '10 is still in perfect shape (as is the one on the '16), no shedding or flaking.

My wifes '13 LTD 3.5 N/A doesn't have one but my '16 Lariat 5.0 does have one.
