Hi Boy's
My '93 4x4 v6 explorer xlt has a discharging problem. It discharges when I use accesories. Parked overnight and the indicator gauge shows it is charging for about 5 mins. My battery tested out good 12+ volts. My alternator tested out good 100 amps. Battery terminals are all clean, no corrsion. What happens is when I drive at night with the lights on, radio, & sometimes wipers for about 45 mins. and turn it off she won't start unless I get a jump. Short drives in the city I don't have this problem. I read other posts with similar problems. I checked the small fuse in the fuse box under the hood that's supposed to be for the regulator, and all the fuses are GOOD.
Can Anyone give me some suggestions? I am ready to pull my hair out.
Love,

i just went through a similar thing. truck wouldnt charge. after replacing the alt, battery, battery terminals, starter relay, running a ground to the alt, all new charge wire, and even OEM wiring harness with plugs. my truck STILL wouldnt charge.

ended up being a bad ignition relay....? i still dont get the reason why, but our trucks alt dont just charge the battery when the engine is on. the ignition relay has to inform the alt also that the motor is on, and to charge the battery. to me, that sounds like complicating things alot more then they need to be, but the fact is, ford decided they liked that idea.

not saying the same issue is what your dealing with, but if you get to the end of your rope replacing EVERYTHING, and it still doesnt work, try it. it took me weeks to fix this issue till i figured this out.

one exception though. my charge light never came on at all. and the voltage was getting so low, the truck stranded me a few time's, so it really should have.

Consider the relay. Makes sense and it's cheap. The regulator may not be getting the signal that the engine is running if the relay is bad.

Clean the battery terminals, and have the charging system checked in Autozone. It could have a defective battery, bad alternator, or corrosion on the battery terminals. Sometimes a bad ground connection could create problems.

discharge problem

where is the ignition relay located on the truck?
